These terms apply when you contribute content to Joie — a photo of a place, or a place we don't have yet. They sit alongside our general Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
The short version. You keep ownership of your photos. You give us permission to show them in Joie, credited to you if you'd like. Only upload photos you actually took. If something shouldn't be here, tell us and we'll take it down.
You retain all ownership and copyright in the photos and information you contribute ("Contributions"). Nothing here transfers ownership to WxWxWx, Inc. ("Joie", "we", "us").
By submitting a Contribution, you grant Joie a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, transferable and sublicensable licence to:
The sublicence is limited to what's needed to run the service — for example, storing and serving images through our hosting and content-delivery providers. It is not permission to sell your photo to a third party.
This licence is granted solely to operate, provide and improve Joie, and to promote the service using Contributions in context (for example, a screenshot of the app showing a place). We will not sell your Contributions as standalone stock imagery, and we will not licence them to third parties for their own independent use.
The licence runs for as long as your Contribution is on the service. If you delete a Contribution, or we remove it, the licence ends — except that (a) copies may remain in routine backups for a limited period before being overwritten, and (b) we do not have to recall copies already downloaded or cached by others.
Each time you contribute, you confirm that:
Please don't upload photos you found online — including images from a venue's website, social media, Google, or another maps service. Even if a photo is publicly visible, it is almost always someone else's copyright.
Photos taken on phones usually embed EXIF metadata, which can include the exact GPS coordinates where the photo was taken and details about your device.
Joie removes this metadata in your browser or app before the photo is uploaded — the file that reaches our storage is re-encoded and carries no EXIF at all. We do this by default, for everyone, because location metadata can reveal more than a contributor intends.
Contributions from first-time contributors are reviewed by a person before they appear. We may decline, remove, or later retire any Contribution at our discretion — including anything that appears to infringe, misrepresent a place, or breach these terms.
We terminate the contribution privileges of anyone who repeatedly infringes others' rights.
If you believe content on Joie infringes your copyright, or shows you or your property in a way you object to, contact us and we will act promptly.

We will acknowledge your report, remove or disable access to the content while we assess it, and notify the contributor. If the contributor sends a valid counter-notice asserting the content was removed in error, we may restore it, and we will tell you before we do.
If a photo shows you, your home, or your business and you'd like it removed, write to the same address — you do not need to make a copyright claim, and you do not need to explain why.
Place information you add (a name, a street, whether there's seating) becomes part of Joie's catalogue. You grant us the same licence as in §2 for that information. Only add places that genuinely exist and that you have visited or otherwise know to be real.
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects the rights you grant us, we will give notice before it applies to Contributions you have already made.
